Te reo Māori - Language Settings

There are a number of ways to add Tohutō for long vowels in Te reo Māori macron 

Aim: to have each device enabled with easy access to the tohutō (macrons)

Chromebooks with Te Reo keyboard etched in 

There are also devices with a te reo Māori papatuhituhi - laser etched in to the keyboard. 

The keyboard can be turned off and on (move from English to te reo and back)

Warning: if the user doesn't know how to switch backwards and forward between the two languages they could get stuck. It will take time to build confidence. Other options likely better for English mainstream - pilot a small cohort first.

It has been designed to make writing in te reo Māori as fast as possible.

Commonly used words are a one key press.

This keyboard will replaces letters not used in te reo with common letter combinations see below.

Chromebooks without the etching - most cases

There is a keyboard that set up using Google Admin makes the tohutohu easiily accessible.
