PLD provider access N4L
PLD Access in Simple Terms
What is PLD Access?
PLD Access is a special type of internet access for Ministry of Education-registered Professional Learning and Development (PLD) facilitators. It allows them to use Wi-Fi, printing, and screen casting (when supported) at all schools that have upgraded to Secure Access. Unlike regular guest Wi-Fi, this access lasts for a whole year and works across multiple schools without needing to reconnect every time.
How is it different from regular guest access?
Designed only for PLD facilitators who visit multiple schools.
Works in all schools with Secure Access after one-time setup.
Lasts for a year, unlike one-time guest Wi-Fi.
Requires pre-registration, instead of being granted on the spot.
How to register for PLD Access?
Go to pld.n4l.co.nz and request access.
N4L will check if you're a Ministry of Education-registered PLD facilitator.
If approved, you’ll receive an email with a voucher code and setup instructions.
Follow the link in the email, accept the terms, and add your device (a certificate will be installed).
Repeat for up to 5 devices. If you need more, request another code.
Note: Registration must be completed within 7 days of receiving the voucher.
Which schools can I access?
Schools that have upgraded to Secure Access (from 2024 onwards).
Check if a school has N4L Wi-Fi to confirm if they support PLD Access.
Why doesn't it work on Android?
Android devices have technical limitations that make installing the required certificate difficult and inconsistent across brands.
How long does it take to set up?
Around 5 minutes per device.
It’s best to do this before your first school visit.
You’ll get a reminder before renewal is needed after a year.
What if I work with schools but I'm not a PLD?
This access is only for registered PLD facilitators. Others must ask the school for Guest Access Plus, which provides similar access but on a temporary basis.
How does N4L verify PLDs?
N4L checks your request against the Ministry of Education’s official PLD facilitator list before granting access.
What about other ways to connect?
If you don’t have PLD Access, you can ask the school for Guest Access Plus, which also allows Wi-Fi, printing, and casting (if supported).
Can I access Minecraft Education?
Yes, but each school must request access separately by contacting N4L’s support team.
What if I was already using N4L Wi-Fi?
If you were using a different method before, you’ll need to remove the old certificate from your device before enrolling in PLD Access.
Will all casting devices work?
Not necessarily—some devices, like certain Chromecast models, might not work due to network limitations.
